Description
Hikvision DS-7104NI-Q1 – compact 4-channel NVR for IP camera systems
The Hikvision DS-7104NI-Q1 is a compact network video recorder designed for CCTV systems with up to four IP cameras. It combines H.265+ video compression, local HDD recording and Hik-Connect network access in a small Mini 1U recorder.
It is a practical choice where the cameras are already connected through a network or separate PoE switch. Unlike the DS-7104NI-Q1/4P version, this model does not have built-in PoE camera ports.
Is This Right for You?
- Suitable for home, office and small-business IP CCTV installations using up to four network cameras.
- A good fit where cameras connect through an existing LAN, external PoE switch or suitable PoE injectors.
- Choose a recorder with built-in PoE instead if you want to connect and power compatible PoE cameras directly from the NVR.
Why Choose This Product?
- Four IP camera channels: Supports a compact surveillance system with up to four network cameras.
- Up to 6MP input: Supports higher-resolution IP cameras while offering decoding of up to 1 channel at 6MP, 2 channels at 4MP or 4 channels at 1080p at 30fps.
- Efficient H.265+ compression: Helps reduce the amount of network bandwidth and hard-drive capacity required compared with older compression formats.
- Up to 6TB local storage: A single SATA interface provides straightforward internal recording storage for compatible surveillance hard drives.
- Local and remote viewing: HDMI and VGA can operate simultaneously, while Hik-Connect provides supported network management and remote access.
- Useful event functions: Supports line-crossing and intrusion detection together with smart search and playback functions when used with suitable camera and system configurations.
Before You Buy
- This is the non-PoE DS-7104NI-Q1 model and does not provide built-in PoE camera ports.
- PoE cameras therefore require a compatible external PoE switch, PoE injector or other suitable network power arrangement.
- The recorder has one 10/100Mbps RJ-45 network interface with up to 40Mbps incoming and 60Mbps outgoing bandwidth.
- A compatible SATA hard drive is required for local video storage; the recorder supports one drive up to 6TB.
- Camera compatibility, resolution, frame rate and smart functions depend on the connected cameras and system configuration.

Storage Guide – Choosing the Right Hard Drive
The amount of storage you need depends on the number of cameras, camera resolution, recording schedule, and how long you want to keep your footage.
Quick Reference
Suggested starting capacities for typical CCTV systems:
| Number of Cameras | Suggested Drive Capacity |
|---|---|
| 1–4 cameras | 1TB–2TB |
| 5–8 cameras | 2TB–4TB |
| 9–16 cameras | 6TB–10TB |
| More than 16 cameras | Calculate your requirements |
Choose a larger drive when recording continuously, using high-resolution cameras, or keeping footage for longer periods.
Consider More Storage If You:
- Record continuously, 24 hours a day
- Use 4MP, 6MP, or 8MP/4K cameras
- Need to retain footage for 30 days or longer
- Have busy areas with frequent movement
- Record audio together with video
- Plan to add more cameras later
