When multiple IP cameras are installed around a property, running every network cable back to a central indoor switch can become expensive and impractical. The GENATA GNT-P4813F6 provides a dedicated outdoor network distribution point, bringing Power over Ethernet (PoE) and network connectivity closer to cameras and other powered devices.

Housed in a water-resistant enclosure, this 16-port AI PoE switch combines a 300W total power supply, two 60W PoE++ ports, extended transmission up to 250m and automatic PoE watchdog recovery. It is particularly suited to multi-camera CCTV installations, perimeter surveillance systems, industrial premises and outdoor network distribution where reliable connectivity and flexible installation are important.

16 PoE Ports with Dedicated High-Power Connections

The GNT-P4813F6 provides 16 powered Ethernet connections, supporting IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt standards. This allows compatible IP cameras, wireless access points and other PoE-enabled devices to receive network data and electrical power through a single Ethernet cable.

Unlike switches where every port has the same power and network speed, the GNT-P4813F6 provides three connection types to accommodate different equipment requirements:

• Ports 1–14: 14 × 10/100Mbps PoE+ ports, supplying up to 30W per port for compatible standard-power devices.
• Port 15: 1 × 10/100Mbps high-power PoE++ port, supporting up to 60W.
• Port 16: 1 × 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit PoE++ port, supporting up to 60W for compatible higher-power or higher-bandwidth equipment.

The two 60W PoE++ connections are particularly useful for compatible PTZ cameras or other equipment requiring more power than a conventional PoE+ port can provide. Port 16 additionally offers Gigabit data connectivity for devices with greater network bandwidth requirements.

The switch has a 300W total power supply rating. Because all powered connections share the available supply, the combined consumption of connected equipment must be considered during installation. The individual maximum port ratings do not mean every port can deliver its maximum output simultaneously.

Extended PoE Transmission up to 250 Metres

One of the most useful features of the GNT-P4813F6 is its automatic extended-distance transmission capability, designed to accommodate cameras positioned beyond conventional Ethernet cable distances.

PoE ports 1–15 support transmission distances of up to 130m at 10/100Mbps. For longer cable runs, the switch can automatically adapt the connection to 10Mbps, extending the specified transmission distance to 250m.

This provides greater flexibility when connecting remote cameras along perimeter fences, boundary walls, entrance roads and other areas where a nearby network distribution point is not practical.

There is an important difference between extended reach and network speed: the 250m operating distance uses a reduced 10Mbps connection. Installers should therefore consider the camera’s actual data requirements before selecting this mode of operation, especially for high-resolution or high-bitrate video streams.

The Gigabit PoE connection on port 16 supports a maximum specified cable distance of 130m rather than the 250m extended mode available on ports 1–15.

Gigabit Uplink and SFP Connectivity

To connect the outdoor switch back to the main network, the GNT-P4813F6 provides two dedicated 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 uplink ports and a Gigabit SFP interface.

The RJ45 uplinks can be used to connect upstream network equipment such as an NVR, router or central network switch. The SFP interface provides an additional connection option for compatible optical fibre networking equipment, which can be particularly useful when planning a larger distributed surveillance network.

The switch offers an 11Gbps switching bandwidth, an 8K MAC address table and a packet forwarding rate of 8.2Mpps, providing the internal switching capacity for its combination of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit connections.

An appropriate SFP module and fibre cabling are required for an optical connection. These should be selected according to the network design and compatible equipment.

AI PoE Watchdog for Automatic Device Recovery

Outdoor cameras are not always easy to access when a device becomes unresponsive. A camera installed high on a pole or at a remote perimeter position may otherwise require an installer to visit the location simply to disconnect and reconnect its power.

The GNT-P4813F6 incorporates an AI PoE Watchdog function across ports 1–16. This feature automatically monitors connected PoE equipment and can restart power to an unresponsive device to attempt recovery.

For CCTV installations, this helps reduce manual intervention when a camera or other powered device stops responding. It is a useful maintenance feature, although physical cable faults, inadequate power allocation and defective equipment still require appropriate troubleshooting.

Electrical Protection for Demanding Installations

The GNT-P4813F6 includes built-in 6kV lightning surge protection and 8kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, helping protect the network equipment against certain electrical disturbances.

These safeguards are especially relevant to outdoor networking environments, where exposed cable routes and electrical interference can present additional installation challenges.

The internal protection features should be used as part of a correctly designed electrical and network installation. They do not replace appropriate earthing, external surge protection or other site-specific safety measures.

Water-Resistant Outdoor Enclosure and Flexible Mounting

The GNT-P4813F6 is supplied in an outdoor water-resistant enclosure measuring 310 × 260 × 100mm, with a manufacturer-specified weight of approximately 2.2kg.

The housing supports both wall and pole mounting, allowing installers to position the switch close to the equipment it serves. The supplied installation kit includes steel mounting hoops, wall-mounting fittings and protective cable-entry components.

These installation provisions help accommodate different mounting positions while providing protected cable entry into the enclosure. Proper cable routing, secure mounting and correct closure of the housing are important for maintaining the intended environmental protection.

The switch operates from a 90–240V AC mains supply and supports operating temperatures from -30°C to +60°C, making it suitable for a wide range of environmental conditions within its specified installation requirements.

Unlike a PoE-powered extender, this switch requires its own mains power connection at the installation location. The availability of a safe, suitable AC power supply should therefore be considered when deciding where to mount the enclosure.
