The Zartek ZA-725 is a robust 16-channel handheld UHF radio designed for professional team communication in security, farming, factories, warehouses, hospitality, events and similar working environments. As supplied, it operates at 500 mW on preset 446 MHz and 464 MHz licence-free frequencies.

For applications where greater communication distance is required, Zartek states that the ZA-725 can be configured for higher-power 4 W licensed UHF operation. This is not a licence-free power boost: the customer must obtain the applicable ICASA radio frequency spectrum licence and the radio must be programmed to an authorised frequency.

How It Works

For standard licence-free use, the ZA-725 is supplied with 16 factory-programmed channels using the 446 MHz and 464 MHz licence-free frequency groups at 500 mW. Radios communicating with one another must use matching frequencies and compatible CTCSS or DCS tone settings.

If the standard configuration does not provide enough range for the application, the ZA-725 can be configured for 4 W licensed operation within its 400–470 MHz UHF hardware range. Higher transmit power can support greater practical communication distance in suitable conditions, but actual performance still depends heavily on terrain, buildings, antenna position and interference. The customer must first obtain the appropriate ICASA spectrum licence and authorised frequency; the radio’s 400–470 MHz capability does not mean every frequency in that range is available for private use.
