The Tiandy TC-P3S028-GIG is a 24-port Gigabit PoE+ network switch designed for larger IP surveillance installations and wired networks requiring centralised power and data connectivity. With a 280W total PoE budget, two dedicated Gigabit RJ45 uplinks and two Gigabit SFP ports, it provides flexible connectivity for IP cameras and other compatible network equipment.

  • 24 × Gigabit PoE+ ports: 10/100/1000Mbps connectivity with IEEE 802.3af/at support, delivering up to 30W per compatible port subject to the total power budget.
  • 280W total PoE budget: Powers multiple compatible IP cameras, wireless access points and other PoE devices without individual power adaptors.
  • Four additional uplink interfaces: 2 × Gigabit RJ45 ports and 2 × Gigabit SFP slots for copper and fibre network connections.
  • 56Gbps switching capacity: Supports Gigabit networking across the switch’s 28 interfaces.
  • 250m Extended Mode: Ports 17–24 support extended PoE transmission up to 250m, with their connection speed reduced to 10Mbps.
  • Automatic PoE watchdog: Enabled for ports 17–24 in Extended Mode to assist with recovery of unresponsive powered devices.
  • PoE priority: Ports 1–16 receive priority under the switch’s default power-priority configuration.
  • Electrical protection: 4kV common-mode surge protection and ESD protection rated at 8kV air discharge and 6kV contact discharge.
  • AC mains operation: 100–240V AC, 50/60Hz input.

Installation consideration: The 280W PoE budget is shared across all 24 powered ports. Calculate the combined power requirements of connected equipment before installation. SFP fibre connections require suitable transceivers and cabling.

Description

Tiandy TC-P3S028-GIG 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch

When a surveillance installation grows beyond a handful of cameras, choosing the right PoE switch becomes a question of available ports, total power capacity and how the network will connect back to the recorder or main infrastructure. The Tiandy TC-P3S028-GIG (Spec:G/2422/AT/280) addresses these requirements with 24 Gigabit PoE+ ports, a 280W shared power budget and separate copper and fibre uplink interfaces.

All 24 powered ports support 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet, making this switch suitable for installations where Gigabit connectivity is preferred throughout the camera network. Unlike a switch with only Fast Ethernet camera ports, the TC-P3S028 provides Gigabit capability at each PoE connection in its normal operating mode.

The switch supports IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at powered devices, including compatible IP cameras, wireless access points and VoIP equipment. Power and network data travel over the same Ethernet cable, simplifying installations by reducing the need for separate power supplies at each connected device.

280W PoE Budget for Multi-Camera Installations

The TC-P3S028 provides a maximum combined PoE output of 280W across its 24 powered ports. IEEE 802.3at support allows compatible devices to receive up to 30W per port, but the overall 280W limit remains important when planning the network.

For example, a system containing numerous fixed IP cameras may require substantially less power than one using motorised PTZ cameras, built-in illumination or other higher-consumption equipment. The total consumption of all connected devices must remain within the available PoE budget, including their maximum operating demands.

Tiandy also provides PoE power priority for ports 1–16, enabled by default. This allows selected connections to receive priority in the switch’s PoE power allocation arrangement.

Dedicated Gigabit Uplinks and Fibre Connectivity

In addition to its 24 powered RJ45 ports, the switch includes two Gigabit RJ45 uplink ports and two Gigabit SFP slots. These additional interfaces allow camera and device connections to remain separate from the ports used to connect the switch to a network video recorder, distribution switch or wider network.

The SFP slots provide the option of fibre-optic network connections where a suitable transceiver and fibre installation are used. This can be valuable when connecting network cabinets or surveillance infrastructure across locations that require fibre rather than conventional copper Ethernet cabling.

With a 56Gbps switching capacity, 41.644Mpps forwarding throughput and store-and-forward operation, the TC-P3S028 provides the switching resources required for its combination of Gigabit access and uplink interfaces.

Extended PoE Mode for Longer Camera Cable Runs

Standard Ethernet operation supports connections up to 100m using suitable cabling. The TC-P3S028 also includes a DIP-switch-controlled Extended Mode, designed for installations where selected cameras need to be positioned farther from the switch.

When Extended Mode is enabled, ports 17–24 operate at 10Mbps and support transmission distances of up to 250m under suitable cabling and device conditions. This provides a practical option for lower-bandwidth surveillance devices positioned beyond conventional Ethernet distances.

Extended Mode also enables the switch’s PoE watchdog function on the affected ports, assisting with recovery when connected powered equipment becomes unresponsive. The reduced 10Mbps connection speed should be considered when choosing which cameras or other devices to connect to these ports.

For devices that require normal Gigabit bandwidth, standard operating mode retains adaptive 10/100/1000Mbps connectivity.

Simple Operation and Electrical Protection

The TC-P3S028 is designed for automatic network connection without a complex initial configuration process. Its Ethernet ports support automatic speed adaptation, while front-panel indicators provide a convenient way to monitor power, link activity and PoE status during installation and troubleshooting.

For electrical resilience, Tiandy specifies 4kV common-mode port surge protection and electrostatic discharge protection of 8kV through air and 6kV by contact. These protective provisions help address electrical disturbances, although appropriate network surge protection, earthing and installation practices remain important.

The switch operates from a 100–240V AC, 50/60Hz supply and supports an operating temperature range of -10°C to +50°C. Its 320 × 207 × 44mm chassis provides 24 powered network connections and four additional uplink interfaces in one unit.

For larger IP camera installations that need Gigabit PoE connections, flexible uplinks and selective long-distance camera cabling, the Tiandy TC-P3S028-GIG combines these functions in a single 280W switching platform.
