The Tiandy TC-P3S06 provides a straightforward way to connect and power a small network of IP surveillance cameras without requiring a separate power supply at every camera. Four 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports combine data connectivity with IEEE 802.3af/at Power over Ethernet, while two additional 10/100Mbps RJ45 uplink ports provide connections to a network video recorder, router or existing network infrastructure.

Its total PoE power budget is 55W, with support for devices requiring up to 30W through an individual IEEE 802.3at port. The 55W limit applies across all four PoE ports combined, so the power requirements of connected cameras must be considered together. This is particularly important when using cameras with supplementary illumination, motorised functions or other features that increase power consumption.

Three Network Modes for Different CCTV Installations

A physical three-position DIP switch provides a choice of network operating modes without requiring software configuration:

• Default Mode: All six ports communicate normally at automatically negotiated 10/100Mbps speeds. PoE watchdog functionality is disabled.
• VLAN Mode: PoE ports 1–4 are isolated from one another and can communicate through uplink ports 5 and 6. PoE watchdog functionality is enabled, making this mode useful when camera-to-camera communication is unnecessary.
• Extend Mode: PoE ports 1–4 operate at a forced 10Mbps link speed to support extended transmission distances of up to 220 metres. PoE watchdog functionality is enabled.

The extended transmission mode is useful when camera locations exceed the normal 100-metre Ethernet cabling distance. However, the reduced 10Mbps connection speed must be suitable for the connected camera’s bandwidth requirements, and achievable distance depends on cable quality and installation conditions.

PoE Watchdog and Power Prioritisation

When VLAN or Extend Mode is selected, the switch enables its PoE watchdog function to monitor connected PoE equipment and automatically restart an unresponsive connection. This can help recover certain camera connectivity problems without requiring someone to manually disconnect the device’s power.

PoE power priority follows port order, with port 1 receiving the highest priority and port 4 the lowest. This allows installers to place more important cameras on higher-priority ports when allocating the available 55W power budget.

Network Connections and Electrical Protection

The TC-P3S06 uses store-and-forward packet switching, automatic MDI/MDIX cable detection and IEEE 802.3x flow control. Its switching capacity is 1.2Gbps, with a packet forwarding rate of 0.8928 million packets per second.

The switch incorporates 4kV common-mode Ethernet surge protection, together with electrostatic discharge protection rated at 8kV for air discharge and 6kV for contact discharge. Front-panel indicators provide visibility of power, network activity, selected operating mode and PoE status.

Power is supplied through an AC 100–240V input. The unit measures 200 × 118 × 44mm and weighs approximately 540g, making it suitable for compact equipment installations with adequate ventilation.

Important: This F/0420/AT/55 version uses 10/100Mbps Ethernet connections throughout. It does not provide Gigabit Ethernet or SFP fibre uplinks. For installations requiring higher network throughput, choose a switch with the appropriate Gigabit connectivity instead.
