Surveillance over large distances calls for more than a conventional PTZ camera. The Tiandy TC-H348M Spec:63X/IL/E++/A combines an exceptionally powerful 63× optical zoom lens with long-range laser illumination, intelligent video analytics and automated early-warning functions. It is designed for professional installations where operators need to survey extensive areas, investigate distant activity and respond to potential security incidents from a central monitoring system.

At its core is a 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensor producing 4MP (2560 × 1440) video at up to 30fps. The camera’s Super Starlight imaging capability supports colour sensitivity down to 0.001 lux at F1.6 with automatic gain control enabled. This provides a useful foundation for low-light monitoring, while dedicated infrared and laser illumination extend its capabilities when ambient lighting is insufficient.

63× Optical Zoom for Long-Distance Observation

The motorised 5.7–359mm lens is a defining feature of the TC-H348M. At its widest setting, the approximately 60° horizontal field of view allows operators to survey a substantial portion of a site. Zooming towards the 359mm telephoto setting narrows the view to approximately 1.5°, concentrating the camera’s available image detail on a distant subject.

Unlike digital enlargement, optical zoom changes the lens magnification before the image reaches the sensor. This makes the 63× optical range especially valuable when examining distant vehicles, entry points, boundary fences and activity across large industrial properties. Additional 16× digital zoom is available when required.

Tiandy publishes DORI distance figures of 3,800m for detection, 1,508m for observation, 760m for recognition and 380m for identification. These represent different levels of image detail under reference conditions, rather than guaranteed results at every distance or in all lighting and weather conditions.

Three Illumination Methods for Different Distances

The TC-H348M employs a combination of infrared, laser and white-light illumination rather than relying on a single night-vision source.

• Smart infrared illumination: 11 infrared emitters provide a published illumination range of up to 300m, supporting night-time observation across extensive areas.
• Long-range laser illumination: Six laser emitters provide a stated range of up to 500m for monitoring distant subjects where conventional infrared illumination may be insufficient.
• White-light illumination: Two white-light emitters provide a published range of up to 30m, supporting nearby illumination and visual warning functions.

The camera also incorporates an automatic IR-cut filter for day/night switching. Its different illumination systems allow the operator to work across a broad range of viewing distances, although actual usable detail depends on atmospheric conditions, the subject, zoom position and available light.

Intelligent Tracking and Automated Early Warning

The TC-H348M combines its motorised PTZ mechanism with intelligent event analysis. Human and vehicle classification helps distinguish relevant movement, while tripwire and perimeter detection can identify activity within configured security boundaries.

With Auto Early Warning (AEW), the camera can link supported events to warning functions such as audible alerts, flashing lights and alarm outputs. Its built-in speaker and red/blue flashing warning capability make it suitable for installations where detecting activity and responding visibly are both part of the security strategy.

Auto-tracking allows the PTZ mechanism to follow selected moving subjects under supported operating conditions. Other available analytics include loitering detection, abandoned or missing objects, people counting, parking detection, running detection, safety helmet detection and face capture.

The camera provides separate monitoring, intelligent monitoring and face capture capabilities. Certain image-processing and intelligent functions depend on the selected operating mode. In particular, 120dB WDR is supported in monitoring mode and cannot operate simultaneously with electronic anti-shake.

For operator-controlled surveillance, the camera supports continuous 360° panning, tilt from -21° to +90°, 500 presets, 16 cruise sequences and programmable scanning patterns. Preset pan movements can reach 240° per second, allowing the camera to reposition quickly between important surveillance locations.

Professional Installation and Recording Integration

The TC-H348M is a substantial metal-bodied camera measuring approximately 308mm in diameter and 505mm high, with a net mass of 12.75kg. Its IP66-rated enclosure, integrated wiper and electronic compass support outdoor surveillance applications where environmental exposure, lens visibility and PTZ orientation matter.

Power is supplied through 36V DC ±25% or IEEE 802.3bt PoE. The published consumption is 37W with IR off and 62W with IR operating. Installers must therefore provide appropriate power infrastructure rather than assume that a conventional low-power PoE camera port will be sufficient. The supporting structure and mounting hardware must also be rated for the camera’s weight and installation conditions.

For network integration, the camera supports ONVIF Profiles S, T, G and M, along with RTSP and Tiandy’s Easy7 VMS platform. It includes an RJ45 Ethernet connection, audio input/output, eight alarm inputs and two alarm outputs for integration with suitable monitoring and alarm equipment.

A built-in microSD slot supports cards up to 512GB for local storage. A memory card is not included as a confirmed accessory and must be purchased separately.

With its combination of 63× optical zoom, 500m laser illumination, intelligent tracking and integrated warning functions, the TC-H348M is particularly suited to professionally designed surveillance systems where long-distance visibility and active monitoring are essential.
