Zartek RX-8 BASIC Twin Pack – Compact Licence-Free UHF Radios with AA Battery Power
The Zartek RX-8 BASIC is an easy-to-use twin pack for customers who want straightforward two-way communication without cellular airtime or a permanently installed system. Each compact radio operates at 500 mW on the licence-free 446 MHz UHF band and provides a backlit display with useful scanning, monitoring and hands-free functions.
The Basic pack is the lower-cost RX-8 option and contains the two radios and belt clips only. You supply the AA batteries, making it a practical choice where replaceable batteries are preferred.
Choose the Right Option
Both RX-8 packs use the same RX-8 radio platform; the important difference is the supplied battery and charging equipment.
- RX-8 BASIC (this product): includes two radios and two belt clips. You need to supply 3 × AA batteries for each radio.
- RX-8 TWIN Rechargeable: adds 6 × 1000 mAh NiMH AA rechargeable batteries, a mains USB adaptor and a dual-pin charging cable.
Choose the Basic pack if you are happy to supply AA batteries separately. Choose the rechargeable pack if you want the NiMH batteries and charging equipment supplied as part of the package.

Before You Buy
- The Basic Twin Pack requires 6 × AA batteries in total – 3 per radio. Batteries are not included.
- No mains adaptor or charging cable is supplied with the Basic pack.
- The RX-8 has a 5 V DC charging input for rechargeable AA NiMH batteries; the charging equipment supplied with the RX-8 Rechargeable Twin Pack is not included here.
- Radio range is strongly affected by buildings, terrain, vegetation and elevation. The quoted distances are approximate operating ranges under different conditions.
- The optional Zartek GE-228 earphone with in-line PTT microphone is compatible with the RX-8. The GE-228 supports push-to-talk operation only and does not support VOX operation through the headset.
